3D product visualization in e-commerce
01
Introduction
In the highly competitive e-commerce sector of the fragrance industry, visual product presentation is a key factor in purchasing decisions. Since scent, as a sensory experience, cannot be directly experienced digitally, computer-generated image synthesis (CGI) plays a crucial role in multisensory communication.
02
Project overview
A fully digital 3D product shoot and an animated commercial were developed for a perfume line with three fragrance variations. The goal was to visually differentiate the variations while maintaining a consistent brand aesthetic.

03
Challenge
The central challenge was to visually translate intangible fragrance characteristics. Different fragrance profiles had to be clearly communicated through targeted visual semantics (color, light, materiality) without fragmenting the brand identity.

04
Solution approach
The approach was based on physically based rendering (PBR) technology combined with strategic image composition. Each variant received a unique visual coding through:
Differentiated color worlds (color psychology)
Realistic material and light simulation
Symbolic staging of the fragrance characteristics
The commercial was enhanced by precise camera work, lighting design, and motion design to create a high-quality brand perception.

05
Implementation
Production followed a standardized CGI pipeline:
3D modeling of the bottles and packaging
Shading & texturing with PBR workflows
Studio lighting simulation and ray tracing
High-end rendering
Post-production & Compositing

06
Result
CGI visualizations enable consistent, scalable, and high-quality product presentation. In an e-commerce context, such visuals demonstrably lead to:
Enhanced visual perception quality
Increased user interaction
Optimized Conversion Rate
07
Conclusion
3D product visualization offers an efficient and aesthetically precise alternative to traditional product photography. Especially in e-commerce, CGI offers significant advantages in terms of flexibility, scalability, and brand presentation.
